This March, Augment Records presents 'Ritual Machines', the second release from London-based electronic artist Memory Effect (aka Tomas Freegard). Following his debut EP 'Some Other Morning', the album continues Freegard’s exploration of hybrid sound worlds, combining electronic production with a broad palette of recorded and instrumental elements. Drawing on both acoustic and non-standard sources—including instruments such as xylophone and kalimba alongside recordings of cash machines, Oyster card terminals, and other urban textures—Memory Effect further extends his distinctive musical vocabulary. Across the record, Memory Effect develops the sonic language introduced in his earlier work, building on his idiomatic interest in digital and organic blends whilst exploring uncharted harmonic and thematic territory in tracks such as ‘Into the Castle’ and ‘Sea Dust’. This February 25th, we're proud to present the debut release of London-based electronic musician, Memory Effect (aka Tomas Freegard).

In his debut EP "Some Other Morning", Freegard showcases his evolution as an artis t, blending his experience in acoustic and instrumental craft with his burgeoning passion for musique-concrete, electronic and sampled music, and UK dance. A sonic-experimentalist, Freegard's work is a tapestry of sounds both organic and electronic, intertwined with an infectious dance-pulse intimating at influences from the UK-garage, industrial and electronica scenes, whilst eschewing timbral elements more conventionally associated with these forms. In Some Other Morning, Freegard integrates guitar and analog synthesizer with a personal library of found sounds, recorded on his journeys through the streets of London using a Zoom microphone. The album's distinctive sound is enriched by live recordings of unique instruments like the Xylophone, Kalimba, Tin Whistle, Lyre, and a variety of foley elements, ranging from the sounds of London's streets to dense jungle—contributing to the album's dislocated and atmospheric edge, blending urban and natural.
Freegard's journey into electronic music began seven years ago, driven by his exploration of digital audio workstations (DAWs). This shift allowed him to merge his acoustic roots with experimental electronic textures, resulting in a sound that is both innovative and personal. Some Other Morning is an invitation to explore a rich interplay of organic and synthetic sounds.

End of Year Update - 2022

Hello, friends! It has been a little while since I last posted one of these and a considerable amount has changed in the interim. Firstly I'd like to wish anyone who may be reading a joyous holiday season and a spirited December leading into the new year. Speaking personally, I have many new goals for 2023 and wish you success with yours.

As pertains to the music...

It has been a highly promising year. I am incredibly pleased with the results, creatively and productively speaking, of what I started (in the form of this enterprise) some years past now. Aside from what are at this point thoroughly well-established collaborations with Oliver Morris and Neehar Ravi (under a variety of names: "Dead Reel, "Spark Ballet" and "0/10") I am also elated to report the release of a new electronica piece at the end of the year under my solo project name "Listful". Keep an eye out for that, should be coming around December 30th to conclude the year! Further major releases to come from "Dead Reel" most likely in February and even more in time. With respect to the enterprise itself, some rebranding has been in order. I have never been truly satisfied with the name and aesthetic and have settled on something new which I intend to stick with for the long term. Hereafter we will be referred to here as Augment Records! ...reflective of what I am pleased to report is an enhanced state of mind and being at play. Things are heating up and I'm so proud to be the teacher of a fine clientele of music students (piano, theory and production) as well as an aspiring publisher. I have so many more ideas ahead of me that I am truly energised to produce and I remain passionately committed to music, I imagine for life. My resources are still relatively limited particularly with regards to music/recording equipment and visual design assets and needless to say would be extremely grateful for any support. In any case I am constantly independently exploring new assets and technologies which might aid my publishing pursuits. Any friendly recommendations would likewise be greatly appreciated!

On a personal note, I will be re-attending university in 2023 for my master's degree which is likely to result in additional busyness. Despite that I will continue to devote the remainder of my time to music and to Augment Records. Wish you all the best this Christmas and in the coming year. With passion, Damiaan.

OI Folks! We're pleased to present a new release! Conceived and composed by artist Relka, and edited by Damiaan Luc at Augment Records, "Can't Wait" goes live this August! Check out our brief bio for a modest overview of the artist:

London-based electronic musician Relka (a partial anagram of the Indian state of Kerala from which he originally hails) first got involved with electronic music production after coming to London as a teenager, seeking to venture beyond his formal background in Carnatic singing. Despite developing roots in UK dance music, Relka always had an uneasy experience in the scene itself, baffling fellow DJs and emptying dance floors. Undeterred, he continued experimenting, over time developing a sound reflective of the indelible marks left by his disparate experiences in India and the UK, while always remaining open to unorthodox and experimental approaches to music. Eventually, with more time on his hands as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, he began to compile selections of his solo music into albums, first releasing Unlocked in 2020 with California based digital label Material Sound . Now partnering with Augment Records to produce his second album, Can’t Wait integrates a collage of memorable samples from his travels, transforming the mundane into a mosaic of varied and sometimes surreal soundscapes.

Our first Releases

Hello readers, hope you're finding yourselves well this December, wishing you a fruitful and joyous holiday season! I just wanted to pen this little piece on our first releases at Lyrrs Music. We have a lot of upcoming music in the pipes but have already begun distributing a few projects from earlier this year, before our website went live. If you haven't already, you may be interested to check out my duo album with Neehar Ravi, under the artist name 0/10 (that's actually "nil in ten"!). Neehar and I come from worlds apart (Neehar having grown up in Kerala, India) and we hastily put this album together soon after meeting this year. There's a lot of quirky musical ideas in there, it's really a big eclectic instrumental mish-mash of things loosely bound within a roughly instrumental hip-hop-ish framework. In addition to that, I've published a bunch of solo tracks as Drowser , most of which are semi-distilled improvisations. My personal favourite track from that series of things has to be Relinquished . I have a lot of projects planned for the future, which I plan to take a bit more seriously than these initial projects, but there will also be a lot of purely fun and playful things too! Presenting Augment Records

Hello world! I'm Damiaan Luc, the founder and principal contributing artist to Augment Records, a new digital music label and platform for unconventional and amateur musicians. My intention for this platform is to provide a space for musical projects that exist outside of the sphere of the major label industry, including my own. Music production is now cheaper and easier than ever before and I'm thrilled to see many people who lack formal musical education getting involved in producing their own music. Speaking personally, I've witnessed many friends and contacts in my life engage with and produce music regardless of their level of expertise, and in doing so, create things of tremendous value which have enriched my life and have the potential to do so for others. This platform will therefore not only serve to catalogue my own musical projects, but those of my friends and associates who want to take the step to publish their material. If you're looking for advice or want to publish with us, please get in touch.

In addition to publishing music, this blog will serve as something of a personal diary, wherein I may pen a variety of thoughts pertaining not only to music in a direct sense, but also to aesthetics and the theory of art and music in general. I also intend to feature music reviews, exclusively positive in nature, to promote underappreciated and experimental music that deserves to be heard, but which tragically passes many people by.
